Mahathir is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow member of Chartered Accountants Ireland (previously known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and also the ASEAN Chartered Professional Accountants (ASEAN CPA).
Mahathir graduated with honours from University College London with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He then pursued his Chartered Accountancy training in an accounting firm in Dublin, Ireland. After successful completion of his professional examinations, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and was admitted as a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
Mahathir returned to Malaysia after spending 15 years in the United Kingdom and Ireland and worked for Binafikir, a local strategic advisory firm and subsidiary of Maybank Investment Bank. At BinaFikir, Mahathir was involved in various client engagements involving strategic advisory and project implementation, feasibility studies, and financial advisory for private finance initiatives and corporates.
Mahathir is now the Founding & Managing Partner of Mahzan Sulaiman PLT, a professional firm
which focuses primarily to help micro & small businesses unleash their full potential. Mahathir also sits on the Board of two public listed companies on Bursa Malaysia. He is an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit & Risk Management Committee of OCK Group Berhad.
He is also the current President of the Malaysian Accounting Firms Association (MAFA).
As part of his social responsibility, Mahathir is also a Trustee and Treasurer of the Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation, a charitable organisation focused on helping under privileged youth in Malaysia with their education.
